The challenge
The legacy process depended on historical product and order data, label templates, printer-specific routing, print queues, and exports. Replacing only the screens would not address data integrity, context reuse, device behaviour, or the need to keep the day-to-day printing operation stable.
The approach
The modernised Windows application uses service-based data access and SQL-backed records, with explicit import and creation workflows, label-template handling, queue management, printer routing, and export capability. Legacy data is handled deliberately rather than silently normalised.
Resulting capability
The resulting capability is a maintainable desktop workflow that preserves local printing needs while improving data access, error visibility, imports, product management, and the separation between interface and persistence logic.
